As you settle down to your Christmas dinner this year, spare a thought for where the ingredients come from.

Whilst your Brussels sprouts might not have seen Belgium, some of the other ingredients might well have come from the EU.

Meat, vegetables, wine and plenty of other food stuffs come to your plate from all over the EU. This has happened for many years, but has accelerated with the growth of the EU supermarkets such as Lidl and Aldi, and it remains to be seen how long they will be able to deliver such value for money products if we leave the single market.

Sometimes even when people intend to shop local it doesn't always work out that way.
